April Newsletter: The vineyard wakes!
The Vineyard Wakes
As April has unfolded across the vineyard, the air among the vines now has a sense of renewal and transformation. The arrival of longer days, Spring breezes and some rain has seen the vineyard really come to life, through bud burst and soon now into canopy growth...
Hello friends, and welcome once again, we hope that you are very well. We're here with another diary entry for you on life and times at our Eridge vineyard, so make yourself comfortable, it's fika time.
So what has been happening out in the vineyard? Well as you can see in this beautiful delicate photograph here, we have now been through bud burst - and this is across all of our varieties. Bud burst is the awakening of dormant buds, and marks the beginning of the growing season. Tender shoots will soon emerge from the vines, signaling the beginning of vine growth and the journey to harvest.
It's an exciting time!
In May we will be celebrating 10 years of our vineyard journey, and we’re marking the occasion with some lovely nostalgic posts on our social media looking back to the beginning, the very early days. This photo is from 9th May 2015 when after months of planning and preparing, we saw the first vines going into the ground - a Chardonnay clone from Burgundy. It’s around this time that Douglas made the transition from Insurance CEO to grape farmer - you can tell this from the hat!
