What's happening in the vineyard

With the mild weather the buds have begun to burst with Chardonnay and Pinot Gris furthest ahead. The early bud burst means that we are at greater risk of frost so the temperature alarms are set in the house so we know when to wake up if the temperature cools. The infrared warming system is already in place and we are putting in place frost barriers around the vineyard to channel cold air. America has taken the vegetation down in the rows as higher levels promote nucleation for frost. The crows are in the vineyard eating the snails and we have a family nesting in our chimney so pest control is beginning early. We have also made a sustainability decision this year to only use mechanical undervine weed control.
