Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens
Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens has created a unique Sussex vineyard experience that includes vineyard tours and tastings, Michelin Star dining and classic afternoon tea, luxury accommodation and walks in beautiful Grade I Listed gardens.
Planted by the great Victorian plant collector Sir Edmund Loder, 'The Finest Woodland Gardens in England' are set within the historic 240-acre estate, which features rare flora and fauna and outstanding scenery throughout the year.
Our Vineyards
Leonardslee has two Sussex Wine vineyards. The main site is located alongside our sister estate Mannings Heath Golf & Wine Estate Kingfisher golf course, just three miles from Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens. The 37 acres of vines were planted in 2017 and 2018, with grape varietals Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. First Harvest was in 2020, and in 2024 the estate will release the first sparkling wine. At the height of production, we aim to produce 70,000 bottles of traditional method sparkling Sussex Wine.
The second vineyard is planted inside the garden estate at Leonardslee overlooking the South Downs. Here we have a 3-acre plot with Pinot Noir and an experimental planting of Pinotage adjacent to Leonardslee House. This is the first commercial planting in the UK of Pinotage, which is typically grown in the warmer climate of South Africa.
While we wait for our first release of English wine, we invite you to explore our range of wine-tasting experiences with award winning wines from our sister estate, Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate in South Africa.
